MN Senate finally to release bonding bill

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A measure authorizing new state debt for construction projects around Minnesota is finally being unveiled in the Senate.

The proposal calling for about $850 million in borrowing has been slow to come together as Democrats and Republicans haggled over the allowable size. Majority Democrats need some Republican votes to meet a three-fifths passing threshold.

It was to be formally released on Monday.

Separately, lawmakers are weighing a $200 million plan to use surplus cash to pay for other projects.

The projects likely to be included would refurbish or construct new buildings on college campuses, expand prison and secure hospital space, upgrade wastewater treatment facilities and renovate convention centers.

The House has yet to vote on its version, but could do so this week.
