Toddler Airlifted to Rochester, Mom Hurt in Minnesota Hit-And-Run

Owatonna, MN (KROC-AM News)- A mother and her toddler were injured in a hit-and-run at an intersection in southern Minnesota Tuesday night.

The Owatonna Police Department responded to the traffic incident shortly before 9:10 p.m.

A news release says the woman was carrying her child across the street when they were hit. Law enforcement is now looking for the suspect vehicle.

Authorities say the collision occurred near the Gateway apartments at the intersection of North Oak Ave. and Rose St in downtown Owatonna.

The woman and two-year-old child were heading south when they were hit by the motorist, according to the preliminary investigation.

The child was airlifted to Rochester for further treatment of unknown injuries. Police say the child’s mother was also injured.

An update on her medical condition was not included in the news release. The names of the mother and child have not yet been released.

Police Asking for Help With Finding Vehicle Involved in Owatonna Hit and Run

Limited information regarding the suspect vehicle is available. Authorities are describing it as a dark-colored truck or SUV.

Police have not said which direction the suspect vehicle was traveling at the time of the incident.

They’re asking anyone who was in the area of the incident around 9:00 Tuesday night who may have information that would aid in the investigation to come forward by contacting Detective Derrik Quinlan at 507.774.7226.

The Minnesota State Patrol, Owatonna Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance also responded to the traffic incident. The Owatonna Police Department is leading the investigation.
