The man had parked in the alley to borrow tools from his brother when a second vehicle pulled up behind the victim’s vehicle. Security camera footage shows the suspect getting out, walking up to the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle and firing gunshots inside of it, the charges say.

The man from the first vehicle is then seen in the alley and the suspect was shown shooting at him, the complaint says. The man was not hit by the gunfire.

The woman was taken to a hospital where she died. The toddler, described in the criminal complaint as a two-year-old boy, was shot in the face but survived the gunfire.

Investigators identified the suspect as 20-year-old Ayale Ali of Savage. He was charged Wednesday with five counts of second-degree murder

Court records indicate Ali committed the shooting while on probation for aggravated robbery in Scott County. His history also includes charges of attempted murder and a home invasion in Iowa.

Over the course of the investigation, authorities found communication of Ali bragging about fleeing to Somalia to avoid the previous charges, the complaint says. He's been charged via warrant complaint and the state plans to ask for bail to be set at $2 million.

The court document indicates the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is planning to seek an aggravated sentence due to the alleged murder happening in front of children.
