Autopsy Determines Nathan Westergaard's Death Was Accidental

An autopsy conducted by the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined Westergaard’s death to be accidental.

First responders were called to the report of an accident with injuries in the 2700 block of Salem Rd., which is near Bamber Lake in Rochester, around 5 a.m. on August 3. A motorist reported hitting a person who was lying in the roadway, police said. 

Responding officers found Westergaard in the eastbound lanes of the four-lane roadway. Despite life-saving measures by the first responders, Westergaard was pronounced dead, according to the police report. 

“Nathan is gone from this earth, but what remains is his family, his friends, and the community that he loved so much,” a GoFundMe set up for the Rochester native’s family says. 

Westergaard was an assistant pro at the Rochester Country Club. He was 38 years old.
