St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - For the second straight day, the Minnesota Department of Health is reporting another COVID-19 death in Olmsted County.

The death reported today was the fourth in Olmsted County and was among the 9 additional coronavirus deaths reported statewide. 8 of the 9 deaths, including the fatality in Olmsted County, involved residents of long-term care facilities. The overall number of deaths in Minnesota since the start of the pandemic is now up to 143.

State health officials today reported 114 new confirmed coronavirus cases throughout Minnesota, which pushed to cumulative total to 2470. Olmsted County only reported 3 new cases today and has now seen 197 confirmed cases since testing for the new virus began. Olmsted County currently has about 80 active cases, while over 100 people have recovered from the illness. Statewide, the number of people listed as recovered has grown to 1202.

The State Health Department is reporting that 237 people are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Minnesota. 126 of the patients are being treated in intensive care. Since the start of the pandemic, over 600 Minnesotans have been hospitalized because of the new coronavirus. In Olmsted County, there have been a total of 24 hospitalizations.
