Winona, MN (KROC-AM News)- A pilot is dead following an aircraft crash at the Winona Municipal Airport.

That’s according to the Winona Fire Department which responded to the aviation fatality around 8:00 Thursday evening.
So far limited details are available.

Pilot Killed in Aircraft Crash at Winona Municipal Airport
Firefighters responding to the airport, located at 106 Galewski Dr., encountered one person at the scene of the crash.
They attempted life-saving measures but the pilot was pronounced dead at the scene, the Winona Fire Department says.

Authorities have not said what caused the deadly crash. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are leading the investigation into the fatal incident.
NTSB Describes Aircraft
A post on X from the NTSB is describing the aircraft as a “Airborne Windsports Microlight aircraft,” which is similar to a motorized hang glider.
A preliminary report from the FAA indicates the crash occurred during the landing for an unknown reason. Officials did not release the pilot’s name.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family,” a Facebook post from the Winona Fire Department says.
The Winona County Sheriff’s Office, Winona County Emergency Management, the Winona Police Department, Winona Area Ambulance and the Goodview Police Department also responded to the deadly incident.
