Prince’s Ashes To Be On Display for 5th Anniversary of Minnesota Son’s Death

The first question I think we're all asking right now is, "How has it already been five years since Minnesota's son, Minnesota's pride and joy, Minnesota's otherworldly talented singer, songwriter, and musician passed away?"

On April 21, 2021, it will have been 5 years since Prince passed away from an accidental fentanyl overdose. He was 57. And that's the day fans will be able to pay their respects free of charge.

The ashes used to be on display in Paisley Park, in Chanhassen, Minnesota, but they were moved to a private location within the complex.  The cremains are inside a Paisley Park-shaped urn, though if you watch this video, it's hard to think of it as an urn.

“Prince’s passing remains incomprehensible to all of us,” said Alan Seiffert, Paisley Park Executive Director. “We celebrate his life and legacy every day at Paisley Park, a place that Prince wanted to share with the world. So, on this day especially, we acknowledge the incredible force and inspiration Prince is in people’s lives and open up our doors for them to pay their respects.”

To do it safely, you'll have to reserve a spot to see Prince's ashes (no charge) here. The reservations are full, however, put your name on the waitlist. Who knows, they may open up more time for fans.

There will be no Paisley Park Studio Tours on the 21 of April.

This is the second announcement regarding honoring Prince five years after he died. 

Two Minnesota lawmakers and a friend of Prince are working on getting a stretch of Highway 5 through Chanhassen renamed after Prince. If this goes through, the 7 mile stretch between 494 and Galpin Drive would be named the Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway. One maybe you didn't know was a Prince song...

And the searing, iconic, floor-you-with-soul-and-emotion solo from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction of George Harrison...so much talent on stage, but it's Prince that comes out of the darkness to give the show an ending many have called one of the best of all time.

I've cued it up to Prince's appearance, but if even that's too much for you, at least go to the end and watch how he leaves the stage.
