Probation for Southern MN Mayor in Public Funds Misconduct Case
Good Thunder, MN (KROC-AM News) - The mayor of a small southern Minnesota city has been placed on probation for a conviction connected to an investigation involving the embezzlement of public funds.
68-year-old Robert John Anderson was arrested and charged in October 2022 after a criminal investigation was conducted by the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office. When the charges were filed against the Mayor of Good Thunder near Mankato, the Sheriff's Office indicated that the Minnesota Auditor's Office had informed investigators about incidents of alleged financial conflicts of interest.

A 2022 news release from the Sheriff's Office says deputies executed a search warrant at Anderson's home and seized what were described as relevant documents. A review of those documents led to Anderson being charged with felony counts of embezzlement of public funds, theft and theft by swindle along with gross misdemeanor charges alleging interest and contract violations by a public official.
A plea agreement in the case was announced today in Blue Earth County Court. Under the plea deal, Anderson admitted to one of the gross misdemeanor charges in exchange for the dismissal of all of the felony charges and the remaining gross misdemeanor offenses.
He was granted a stay of adjudication and was placed on supervised probation for two years and was ordered to perform 40 hours of community work service.
