St Paul (KROC AM News) -  A funding source for a proposed veterans home in Fillmore County may have been found. State Rep. Greg Davids of Preston is looking at the reserve account set up for US Bank stadium, which he says has a big surplus.

Davids says the current surplus is $58-million and it’s expected to double within a few years.

Davids calls the proposal to tap the money to help pay for veterans homes in Preston, Montevideo and Bemidji  “ a brilliant idea.”

He says with financial backing from the state and local communities, the federal government will cover 65 percent of the cost of the homes.

Davids said the proposal will be included as part of a state government budget bill that will be debated on the House floor during the current session.
