The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says 41-year-old Nicholas Link was driving the wrong way, causing a car to rear-end another vehicle that stopped suddenly. Link did not stop but drove by the scene a short while later as a deputy was there talking to the drivers.

The deputy went after Link and was able to pull him over but he took off on foot.

The sheriff's office says Link ran to a nearby strip mall and entered a laundromat where he pulled a chair out from under a woman, causing her to fall to the floor.

He then ran to Darrell's Emporium next door where he continued acting erratically. That's when he punched a female employee in the face and threw a cash register through the window.

The deputy saw the register land outside the store and went inside and took Link into custody.

The deputy suspected Link was under the influence of methamphetamine and obtained a blood sample at the jail.

News update: Rochester man sentenced to prison for domestic incident.
