Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man was sentenced today for severely physically abusing a child.

Court documents, which only identified the victim as a juvenile male and do not list his age, indicate Rochester police were dispatched to a northwest Rochester home in April of last year. When they arrived, they reported finding a child on the floor convulsing and drawing shallow breaths.

Police Reported the Child was Unresponsive and His Pulse was Weakening

The criminal complaint in the case says the child had an open wound on the left side of his head and blood was covering half of his face. The responding officers also indicated that he was unresponsive and his pulse began to weaken before medical personnel arrived at the scene.

According to the charges, a witness told the officers that 33-year-old David Chan Vannadee struck the boy with a blower dryer several times. The complaint says Vannadee allegedly became upset after the child refused to apologize for an incident that occurred the previous week.

Vannadee was charged with third-degree assault and a felony count of malicious punishment of a child. Last month, the Rochester man entered into a plea agreement and admitted to the felony assault charge in exchange for the dismissal of the charge of malicious punishment of a child.
