Rochester Man Sentenced to Prison for Illegal Possession of a Gun
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man convicted of armed robbery has been sentenced to five years in prison for illegally possessing a gun.
30-year-old Charles Lewis was recently found guilty of illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. He was charged last September after an ammunition magazine for a handgun was found in his pocket during a traffic stop along North Broadway in Rochester.
The criminal complaint indicates one of the officers involved in the stop spotted what appeared to be an ammunition magazine in the right front pocket of the jeans worn by Lewis. That resulted in a search and the discovery of a handgun in his front left pocket.
Court records show Lewis was convicted of armed robbery in Milwaukee in 2014. Under Minnesota law, his conviction prohibits him from possessing a firearm which is an offense that carries a mandatory 60-month prison sentence.
Lewis was given credit for the 287 days he has already spent in jail since his arrest.
