
Charges: Motorcyclist Fled Downtown Rochester Traffic Stop, Crashed Moments Later
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A motorcyclist has been charged for allegedly fleeing a Rochester police officer then crashing last April.

The recently filed criminal complaint accuses him of being under the influence of alcohol. He crashed after escaping the traffic stop attempt in downtown Rochester, the charges say.
Law enforcement initially encountered the suspect revving the motorcycle’s engine and stopping in the lane of traffic, the charges say.

Kasson, MN Man Accused of fleeing Traffic Stop in Downtown Rochester, Crashing Motorcycle
Police identified the motorcycle operator as 44-year-old Travis Lee Hughes of Kasson. The officer initiated the traffic stop in the area of 4th St. and South Broadway Ave.
Hughes accelerated halfway down the block to make a yellow light then ran two red lights as the officer pursued, the complaint says. The officer lost sight of Hughes as the motorcycle continued north on Broadway Ave.
About 10 minutes after making initial contact, police responded to a motorcycle crash at the intersection of North Broadway Ave. and 37th St. Officers identified Hughes as the motorcyclist involved.
The Kasson man was showing signs of impairment and had a pistol and ammunition on him at the time of his arrest. His blood-alcohol concentration was measured at 0.83, according to the complaint.
Hughes does not possess a permit to carry a pistol, the charges say. Hughes was taken to a hospital for medical attention.
Officers also learned Hughes had expired registration and a revoked driving status, the court document says.
He’s charged with felony fleeing, gross misdemeanor carrying a pistol without a permit, misdemeanor escaping the motor vehicle tax and two counts of misdemeanor DWI. He’s due in court in July.
