Charges: Rochester Woman Suspected of Fleeing Traffic Stop Tased by Police
An officer on patrol spotted a vehicle traveling at an estimated speed of 60 mph in the 45 mph zone shortly before 11:30 Sunday night in the area of 37th St. and East River Rd., the complaint says.
The driver, later identified as 44-year-old Jillian Marie Riehl, refused to stop after the officer activated the squad car lights, the charges say.
The Rochester woman then ran a stop sign and accelerated at a high rate of speed, causing the officer to decide not to pursue, according to the court filing.
The officer then went to the home of the previously reported domestic incident to see if Riehl would return.
Officers and Olmsted County Sheriff’s deputies then spotted the suspect vehicle after the failed traffic stop. Law enforcement reported Riehl’s driving conduct was erratic and declined to pursue, according to the complaint.
The vehicle then returned to the home where the officer was waiting shortly after 12:30 Monday morning.
Officers moved in for an arrest but Riehl refused to exit the vehicle and resisted officers by punching and kicking when she eventually opened the driver’s side door, the complaint says.
The charges say police warned her they would deploy a taser if she did not comply. The officers then tased the Rochester woman and took her into custody.
Riehl was taken to be evaluated at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was then medically cleared and booked into the Olmsted County Jail shortly before 5:00 Monday morning, according to Olmsted County Adult Detention Center records.
Riehl is charged with felony fleeing, gross misdemeanor DWI, obstructing the legal process and driving after revocation. She’s due to make her first court appearance Tuesday morning.
