Police Officer Treated After Fentanyl Exposure in Rochester
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester police officer required treatment after being exposed to fentanyl during the response to a suspected drug overdose Sunday night.
Rochester Police Department Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson says the incident occurred around 9 PM at the Circle K convenience store on 4th Street Southeast near the Government Center. She says officers were dispatched in response to a report of a man possibly overdosing.
The police statement on the incident indicates the man was treated by a Mayo Clinic Ambulance crew for fentanyl use and was then taken into custody on an outstanding felony warrant. He was identified as 43-year-old Jhirmon Simmons.

According to Grayson, an officer was searching through Simmons’ belongings and located drug paraphernalia. The officer was using personal protective equipment but began experiencing symptoms of fentanyl exposure.
Grayson says Narcan was administered to the officer at the scene before he was transported to St. Marys Hospital, where he was treated and released.
