The deputy was southbound on 3rd avenue around 7:45 when he spotted the man.

The deputy says the man was looking down when he stepped onto the roadway and apparently not watching for traffic.  The deputy stopped but the driver of a car who was in the other lane did not see the man and hit him.

The man - 59 year old Daniel Norman - was taken to St. Mary’s for treatment of leg injuries.  He was listed in fair condition this morning.
