Rochester Traffic Stop Leads to Cocaine, MDMA and Gun Bust
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A traffic stop in northwest Rochester led to the discovery of suspected cocaine, MDMA and a firearm over the weekend.
That’s according to Rochester Police Lt. Jennifer Hodgeman. She said the officer made the traffic stop after seeing the vehicle roll through a stop sign.
The traffic stop happened in the area of 11th Ave. and 7th St. Northwest around 1:45 Saturday morning. Hodgeman said the vehicle pulled off to the side of the road before the officer activated the squad car’s emergency lights.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer saw a clear tied off baggie containing a white powder on the vehicle’s floor. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Don Morgan of Rochester, was then arrested on suspicion of narcotics possession, Hodgeman said.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a hidden compartment along the dashboard that contained a firearm magazine, handgun and 42 pills, according to the police report.
Hodgeman said the magazine contained 20 rounds of 9 millimeter bullets. The powder field-tested positive for cocaine and the pills field-tested positive for MDMA, the police report says.
Morgan was booked into the Olmsted County Jail on suspicion of felony second-degree drug possession with a firearm, felony fourth-degree drug possession with intent to sell, gross misdemeanor possession of a pistol without a permit and misdemeanor driving after revocation, jail records indicate.
He is awaiting arraignment in Olmsted County Court.
