School Board Agenda Tonight Includes School Attendance Boundaries

It’s unclear if the Rochester School Board will vote tonight on the three options identified by a committee formed to come up with a plan for adjusting the school district’s attendance boundaries.

The issue is on the board’s agenda as a briefing item, but the board could opt to move it to an action item.

The first option only calls for revamping the lottery system used to select students from the waiting lists for the district’s existing “choice school” programs. The second option would add some relatively modest elementary school boundary shifts, while he final option would also incorporate a “school within a school” choice program at Bamber Valley Elementary School that would offer the Core Knowledge Curriculum now in use at Washington Elementary.

The School Board could also decide to leave things as they are, since there is no pressing space crunch in any of the school district’s facilities.
