Suspected Shark Attack Claims Life of Minnesota Woman

St. Croix, U.S Virgin Islands (KROC-AM News) - A suspected shark attack is being blamed for the death of a Minnesota woman in the Caribbean.

A statement issued by the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department indicates emergency personnel were alerted by 911 callers around 4:30 p.m. Thursday that a woman had apparently been bitten by a shark. The incident occurred at Dorsch Beach on the western edge of the island of St. Croix.

Emergency Response on St. Croix

The news release says marine units and fire and rescue personnel rushed to the scene and confirmed that the woman had lost her arm in the attack. There were also reports of a possible second victim, but a search of the area failed to locate any additional victims.

Victim Was From the Minnesota

The victim of the suspected shark attack later died from her injuries. She was identified as 56-year-old Arlene Lillis of Detroit Lakes.
