All of Southeast Minnesota Started 2024 With Higher Unemployment

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Seasonal factors contributed to a rise in unemployment rates throughout southeastern Minnesota in January.

The latest jobs report from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development indicates the jobless rate for the Rochester area rose half a percentage point to 2.3% in the first month of the new year. A year ago in January, the unemployment rate for Olmsted County was 2.5%.

The Olmsted County jobless rate remained the lowest in the region, where every county saw an increase in the unemployment rate. The highest rate was 3.7% in both Dodge and Fillmore Counties. Fillmore also experienced the largest increase at 1.3 percentage points.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the entire state was steady from December through January at 2.7%.
