Suspicious Death Investigation in Faribault is Now a Murder Case
Faribault, MN (KROC-AM News) - A suspicious death investigation in Faribault has shifted to a murder investigation.
Faribault police were called to a residence Wednesday afternoon to conduct a welfare check and found a deceased male inside the house. A statement issued this afternoon by the Faribault Police Department indicates evidence found at the scene and the results of a preliminary autopsy have confirmed the man's death was caused by homicidal violence.
Officials say the precise date and time of the victim's death remain part of the active investigation. They are also waiting for confirmation of the man’s identity from the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.
The news release says investigators quickly learned yesterday that the man's vehicle was missing from the residence. A regionwide alert was issued and the vehicle was located by a law enforcement agency in Iowa. Investigators from the Faribault Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension worked with authorities in Iowa to take custody of the vehicle, which is being processed for additional evidence.
The statement also indicates there is no active threat to the safety of the community.
