Tragic Fire Hits Minnesota Community
Alexandria, MN (KROC-AM News) - There was a deadly fire early this morning in western Minnesota.
The Alexandria Police Department says the Alexandria Fire Department and firefighters from a nearby community were called out around 6:35 AM after receiving a report of a fire at a residence in the 1000 block of Jefferson Street. After arriving at the scene, the emergency responders were told that six people were inside the single-family home.
A news release says an adult male was found deceased inside the home and five other people were transported to the hospital in Alexandria. The Police Department says three of the five survivors were then airlifted to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
The two other injured people were treated at the hospital in Alexandria and released. It was also reported that an Alexandria Police officer and a Douglas County Deputy were injured while rescuing the occupants of the burning home. They were also treated and released.
An investigator from the State Fire Marshal's Office was called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
