Soudan Underground Mine Electrician Needed
Minnesota State Parks and Trails shared the job opening on social media this week. The Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park is looking for a Class A Master Electrician to work in the mine. The job would require working with industrial electrical equipment at the mine. The electrician would be responsible for planning, installing, repairing, and providing preventative maintenance at the mine.
History of the mine.
The historic mine is the main attraction at the Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park, where they offer tours in the summer months. The mine tour takes guests down an elevator 1/2 mile into the ground. From there, guests board a small mine train that brings them to the last area mined in 1962 on level 27. Level 27 is located 2,341 ft below the surface. The mine operated from 1901-1962 and produced some of the richest iron ore in the world.

There have been several disruptions in past years to the mine tours, including a fire in 2011 and flooding that occurred in June 2024.
The salary range for the position is between $72,077-$83,937 annually, with a schedule of Monday - Friday, day shift. Interested candidates can apply online on the Official Site of the State of Minnesota Careers. The ideal candidate would have a Class A Master Electrician License with 3 years of industrial experience. The electrical equipment is from the 1920s era.
