Victim of Weather-Related Crash in Central Minnesota Identified
St. Cloud, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in central Minnesota have released information about a weather-related fatality that occurred on Wednesday afternoon.
The Benton County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a report of a serious crash at a rural intersection about 15 miles east of St. Cloud shortly before 4 PM. When they arrived, they found two cars had collided on the roadway, which was covered in snow and ice due to gusty winds at the location.
A news release says the driver of one of the cars, 31-year-old Amanda Nieman of Milaca was trapped inside her vehicle and required extrication. The Sheriff's Office says once she was freed from the wreckage, first responders attempted lifesaving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the news release, an 8-year-old child was also in the car and was transported to a St. Cloud hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other car, 43-year-old Margaret Henry of Sauk Rapids, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital in St. Cloud.
The Benton County Sheriff's Office says the investigation determined that Nieman lost control of her car when it hit the icy patch on the roadway, which caused it to slide sideways into the path of the second vehicle. The news release states that investigators found no signs of impairment in either driver.
