Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - An early morning call about a stranger inside a Rochester apartment building led to the arrest of a man who was being sought for violating a court order not to have contact with a woman.

Authorities had been looking for 56-year-old Dennis Nelson since he began texting the woman a week ago in violation of the order.

Rochester officers were sent to the apartment house in the 100 block of 7th St NW around 4:00 AM Tuesday. A tenant called 911 after spotting Nelson in a hallway where the lights were out. Police say when asked what he was doing there, Nelson told the tenant he was working for the landlord and was there to “fix the electricity.”

Nelson fought with officers when he was being arrested. He was eventually taken to St. Marys Hospital after the officers suspected he was under the influence of methamphetamine.

Nelson has a history of domestic abuse and no-contact violations dating back to 1999. There are five cases pending in Olmsted County Court.
