Football Stadium at Mayo High School Renamed to Whitney Stadium

Whitney, a 1980 Mayo High grad, grew up across the street from the field that now bears his name. He retired last month, ending his 33 year tenure as the school’s Activities Director.

“This is an incredibly humbling experience, and it's especially meaningful because Mayo is my alma mater,” Whitney said in a statement. “I've been Green and Gold nearly my whole life, which is incredible to think about; my sons have worn Green and Gold since the day they were born. To say this is an honor is an understatement. Each time I return now as a fan, I will be reminded that Mayo is, and has always been, home.”

Whitney retires as a well decorated activities administrator. His accolades include being named the MN State Activities Director (AD) of the Year in 2018, Region 1AA AD of the Year, MN High School Coaches Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, and MN Interscholastic Triple A Distinguished Service Award winner.

Whitney was presented with a plaque prior to Friday night’s kickoff by students and Mayo High Principal Troy Prigge.
