2 Pounds of Meth Found During Traffic Stop Near Stewartville
"The driver was shaking out of nervousness"
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A traffic stop near Rochester last week resulted in the arrests of two Iowa men and the seizure of a large shipment of methamphetamine.
Criminal complaints filed in Olmsted County Court say an Olmsted County Sheriff's Office corporal initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of I-90 and County Road 6 near Stewartville in the late afternoon of April 23. The court document says the law enforcement officer observed the driver was "shaking out of nervousness" and learned the vehicle had been rented for one day only.
According to the charges, K9 officers were then deployed to sniff the vehicle and alerted to the presence of controlled substances. That led to a search and the discovery of a plastic grocery bag on the front passenger floorboard.
The criminal complaint states a large amount of a substance that later field-tested positive for methamphetamine was found inside the bag. With packaging, it weighed more than 2 pounds.

The driver, 46-year-old Patrick John Letscher of Nora Springs, Iowa, and his front seat passenger, 55-year-old Jason Charles Jensen of Mason City, Iowa were both placed under arrest and brought to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center. The criminal complaint says a small baggie containing just under 1 gram of methamphetamine was also found in a pocket while Letscher was being processed into the jail.
