Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester Firefighters responded to the most calls in the 157-year history of the department last year.

The fire department included a breakdown of its calls in its monthly media blast released on Monday. The data indicates the fire department responded to nearly 1,100 more calls in 2022 than the previous year.

The fire department tallied 12,147 calls for service last year. Officials say it’s the first time ever that figure has topped 12,000.

The call category that saw the largest increase was rescue/EMS calls, which jumped by 700 in 2022 compared to 2021. 8,102 rescues/EMS calls came in last year, the highest of all call categories.

Firefighters responded to 227 fires last year, down from 234 in 2021. Hazmat and hazardous response calls dropped from 143 in 2021 to 107 in 2022 and mutual aid/assist/other calls went up from 3280 in 2021 to 3,711 last year.
