It will be the second closure on the busy street that connects downtown Rochester and Hwy. 52.
The street is already closed between 4th and 6th Avenues SW for construction of a pedestrian subway tunnel that will connect a future Mayo Clinic clinical building with a stop along the future Link Bus Rapid Transit (Link BRT) stop.

2nd St. SW Closure Near St. Mary's Hospital Starts Monday, May 4
Starting Monday 2nd St. SW will also be closed between 14th and 12th Avenues SW.
The closure, which is north of the Mayo Clinic-St. Mary’s campus, is part of the next phase of the Link BRT project, according to Mayo Clinic’s construction website.
Crews are constructing a pedestrian subway tunnel that will connect St. Mary’s to a future transit center that will be stationed along the Link BRT line.
The official detour route for hospital traffic will be 11th Ave SW or 12th Ave SW, then west on 1st St. SW, and south on 16th Ave. SW to reconnect with 2nd St. SW.
The City of Rochester indicates the road closure is anticipated to last into next month. City officials say emergency vehicle access to St. Mary’s Hospital will be maintained during the closure.
BRT Project About 33% Completed
An update on the Link BRT project provided by the city indicates the work is about 33% completed.
Once finished, the 2.8-mile line will provide fare-free service from a future “Transit Village” near Cascade Lake to Mayo Clinic facilities and other downtown Rochester destinations.
Work on the bus line started in June of last year and is anticipated to finish by the end of this year.
