This year’s Thanksgiving Day  will go into the weather books as one of the coldest for many parts of Minnesota.   Overnight low temperatures were below zero nearly everywhere, including Rochester which had an 8 a.m.  reading of minus six.  That’s the coldest it’s been since February 1st.

Southern Minnesota was hit by a snowstorm on Wednesday with 2 - 3 inches in the southeastern corner of the state.  Rochester’s official total was 2.8 inches.  The heaviest snow fell in a small area of south central Minnesota, within a 50 mile radius of Mankato.  The highest report was 11 inches near Faribault.  Mankato and St Peter had 7 inches.

The snow created slick driving conditions into the evening and law enforcement officers were busy dealing with accidents and spinouts.
