That’s according to Rochester Police Department Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson. The arrest occurred around 8:20 Sunday night.
Grayson says a member of the Rochester Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team saw a person sitting inside of a vehicle he recognized as 29-year-old Liban Abdullahi.
The law officer knew the Rochester man was the subject of a felony arrest warrant. The vehicle Abdullahi was spotted in was parked at the Circle K gas station in the 1800 block of Assisi Dr. Northwest.
Abdullahi was sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle and attempted to crawl into the driver’s seat after being informed he was under arrest. A second officer approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and took him into custody, according to the police report.
Police say Abdullahi was in possession of a loaded handgun and 100 pills that later tested positive for fentanyl at the time of his arrest.
Abdullahi was booked into the Olmsted County jail around 8:40 p.m. He could face additional felony charges related to his arrest, Grayson says.
Court records indicate an arrest warrant was issued for Abdullahi in December in relation to a case in which he’s charged with felony terroristic threats, felon in possession of a firearm and gross misdemeanor domestic assault.
Abdullahi was previously convicted of felony third-degree assault in a 2018 Olmsted County case, a conviction that prohibits him from possessing a firearm, according to court records.
