The Rochester City Council was briefed yesterday on a proposal to add more amenities to the 2nd street southwest corridor

between Highway 52 and 23rd avenue, which was reconstructed last year. The proposal calls for adding bus shelters, benches, lighted towers and other artistic items. The stretch of roadway has been named “ Uptown “ by businesses in the corridor and they are defining it as the gateway to the planned Cascade Creek Recreation Area. The overall cost of the additional amenities is around $570,000. The city had targeted $700,000 in sales tax money for the original reconstruction work but instead received federal funds to help cover the cost. That means the sales tax funds can be used for the new work,if it’s approved by the City Council at a future meeting. That also means property owners along the corridor won’t be assessed for the new work,
