Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A fire at a downtown Rochester apartment tower sent two people to the hospital on Monday.

The Rochester Fire Department said crews responded to the scene for the frigid fire fight shortly after 6:45 a.m. on the report of a fire alarm. 

Two people were inside of the unit where the fire occurred, a news release issued by the Rochester Fire Department indicates.

2 People Taken to Hospital Following Fire at Central Towers in Downtown Rochester, MN

The fire broke out at the Central Towers at 200 1st Ave. Northwest. Fire crews encountered thick smoke when they got to the fourth floor and requested additional resources.

Crews found the apartment where the fire started and assisted the apartment’s two occupants out of the building. 

Firefighters then extinguished the smoldering fire inside of the apartment and ensured it had not spread. No one else was found inside of the residence, the news release says.

The two individuals who were assisted out of the fiery apartment were treated by firefighters before receiving medical attention from a Mayo Clinic Ambulance crew. 

They were then transported from the scene for further care. Their names and an update on their conditions have not been released.

Fire officials say some furniture and other contents inside of the apartment were destroyed. The fire did not cause any structural damage but did leave light smoke damage in its wake, according to the news release. 

The cause of the fire is not available. The Rochester Police Department also responded to the fire scene.
