Austin, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities have arrested an Austin teenager in connection to a fatal southeastern Minnesota shooting over the weekend.

Agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension responded to the scene to assist local investigators. 

The Austin Police Department responded to the shooting in the 1100 block of 5th Avenue Northwest in Austin shortly after 1:30 PM Saturday. Upon arrival officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was identified today as 27-year-old Opoka James Bot Lob Nathanael of Austin.

A statement issued over the weekend by the Austin Police Department says the shooting victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Authorities also said that another gunshot victim was transported to the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Austin by private vehicle.

Police Report Arrest of Teen Gunman for Fatal Austin, MN Shooting, Investigation Remains Ongoing

On Monday afternoon, Austin Police Chief Dave McKichan reported that the shooting suspect has been taken into custody. McKichan described the suspected gunman as a 16-year-old boy from Austin.

Law enforcement arrested the suspect in Austin. The Mower County Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the case for charging consideration, McKichan said. 

The names of the gunshot victims, and an update on the condition of the victim who was reported to have survived the shooting has not yet been released. 

McKichan says the fatal shooting remains an open and ongoing investigation.
