County Bd to Seek Bids for Weapons Screening Project

The Olmsted County Board is scheduled to vote today on a request to seek bids/proposals for the planned expansionof the Government Center and new weapons screening project that was approved earlier this year.  Staff says the schedule calls for the bids to be submitted by mid-October.  A recommendation to award the winning bid is expected to be given to the County Board in November.

The project calls for the construction of a tower on the east side of the Government Center building where the main entrance is located.  The tower will include two elevators and the new screening program, which will be located on the second floor.  The first floor will not be affected by the new program.   Staff hopes the project will be finished next year.

The Board will also be asked to recognize a longtime employee of the county’s Oxbow Park.

Tim Buri serves as the park’s caretaker and while making a security check the night of June 20th, spotted a car that was partially submerged in the flooding Zumbro River.

He also spotted the driver and a passenger - still in the vehicle.  Buri helped the two Rochester teenagers get out safely, just moments before the car was swept away.
