Dodge Center City Council Candidate Accused of Attacking Deputy During Trespassing Arrest at School
Dodge Center, MN (KROC-AM News)- A man running for public office in southeast Minnesota has been accused of attacking a sheriff’s deputy.

That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Dodge County Court Friday morning. The address listed in the complaint, matches the address of a candidate for the Dodge Center City Council.
A Dodge County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a vehicle on a road that goes through the eastern side of Triton High School in Dodge Center around 7:40 Thursday night.
The deputy stopped the vehicle because he recognized it to be owned by a man who had been trespassed from the Triton School.

The deputy identified the driver as 48-year-old Matthew David Legler and confirmed he had been trespassed from all Triton school property since this past May, the charges say.
Legler became agitated once the deputy informed him he was under arrest for trespassing, the charges say. He began recording the encounter with the deputy by using two cell phones and a dash camera.
The Dodge Center man also called 911, the complaint says. Legler then exited the vehicle after being ordered to do so by the deputy and began resisting the deputy after being cuffed on his left arm.
He then turned around and punched the deputy three to five times in the head. Another deputy responded to the scene and deployed his taser to subdue and handcuff Legler, the charges say.
Legler was cleared by an EMS crew at the scene then transported to the Olmsted County Jail, the complaint says.
The deputy Legler is accused of attacking eventually went to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester and was diagnosed with what the charging document describes as a minor concussion.
Legler is charged with a felony count of fourth-degree assault of a peace officer and misdemeanor counts of trespassing, disorderly conduct making an emergency call for a non-emergency.
He’s being held on $25,000 conditional bail and is due back in court on October 23.
