Drought Beginning to Form in Southeast Minnesota
La Crosse, WI (KROC AM News) - Yes, it’s been dry in southeast Minnesota - enough to be included in the latest report on drought conditions in the state.
The National Weather Service says much of the region is now classified as abnormally dry. That’s the lowest category of drought conditions.
The last time the region received a decent rain was July 26th when about half an inch fell.
The Rochester area received just over 2.5 inches during the first half of July but only about an inch since then.
The moisture deficit has grown to 1.5 inches since June 1st. And chances of a good soaking during the next several days don’t look good.
So far this year, the area has received 20 inches of precipitation. Compare that to a year ago when the total was 3 feet, almost double the current number.
