UPDATE: Faribault Police Chief Details Armed Standoff Incident and Law Enforcement Response

Sgt. Matt Knutson with the Faribault Police Department confirmed for KDHL that a report was made at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night of a gun-pointing incident in the 400 block of Central Avenue.

The male suspect was reported to have pointed a firearm at another male and his child before fleeing into an apartment building.  The suspect was described as a Hispanic male wearing a black shirt.

Police called in SWAT officers and the block was barricaded and the building surrounded.   Officers used a public address system asking the suspect to come out of the building.

At approximately 12:45 this morning according to Mn. Crime Watchers the suspect punched out an apartment window screen and was armed with a gun reported said "shoot me" to officers upon his exit.

Sgt. Knutson was unsure the exact time of his arrest but stated the department will probably issue a News Release on the matter sometime this morning.

The Sgt. did tell KDHL officers said the man was "uncooperative" during his arrest.
