‘Person of Interest’ Named in Faribault Murder Case

Faribault, MN (KROC-AM News) - A woman arrested after a traffic stop in Iowa on Monday has been named “a person of interest” in the murder of a Faribault man.

The Faribault Police Department says 32-year-old Arlene Theresa Bell was driving the victim's vehicle when she was pulled over by an Iowa State Trooper I-80 west of Des Moines. A news release indicates the traffic stop occurred before investigators were aware that the victim's vehicle was missing from his residence.

Bell is being held in the Dallas County Jail on charges unrelated to the murder investigation and a motor vehicle theft charge. Meanwhile, the vehicle she as driving has been transported to St. Paul to undergo forensic processing by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

The Faribault Police Department news release also indicates that investigators have learned that Bell and 76-year-old Gary Lehmeyer were engaged in a "legally qualifying domestic relationship" at the time of his death. Lehmeyer's body was discovered in his home on Monday after Faribault police were asked to conduct a welfare check. The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office has ruled his death was the result of homicidal violence.
