A gas leak prompted the evacuation of an apartment house in Rochester Tuesday morning.

Rochester Fire Department Deputy Chief Steve Belau says a 911 call came in shortly before 8:30 a.m. from residents at 815 9th avenue southeast, who reported the smell of natural gas. The responding firefighters found levels of the gas had nearly reached dangerous concentrations inside one of the apartment units. The problem was traced to a leaking gas stove. Belau says it took about a half hour to ventilate the apartment house after the gas supply to the stove was shut off. No injuries were reported.
