Minnesota Man Admits to Using Bad Check to Steal Pick-up from Rochester Dealership
41-year-old Andrew John Leroux of Hugo entered a plea deal to settle the theft case in Olmsted County Court earlier this week, according to court records.
Leroux was accused of obtaining the pick-up after writing a check for $66,760.50 from a bank account that had been closed. Authorities located the pick-up truck inside a shed on a property in Washington County.
Law enforcement seized the pick-up after the Washington County Sheriff’s Office advised Rochester police that they’ve dealt with Leroux in the past and warned the vehicle would be gone if it wasn’t quickly seized.
Court records indicate Leroux was on probation at the time of the theft. He was charged with a felony count of motor vehicle theft and a felony count of issuing a dishonored check.
Leroux agreed to plead guilty to the dishonored check charge in exchange for the dismissal of the theft count. The plea agreement also indicates Leroux will likely be given a stayed 19-month prison sentence.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in September.
