Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The proposed expansion project of the Rochester Ronald McDonald House is scheduled to be reviewed later this month by the city’s Planning and Zoning  Commission.

A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled to be conducted by the commission on March 23 (6pm) at City Hall.

The proposal calls for a three story, 42 unit building that will be constructed on the east side of the current facility. The current Ronald McDonald House also has 42 units.

The facility has been overwhelmed with requests by families who travel to Rochester for medical treatment for critically ill children. The home served 863 families last year and had to turn away 1,000 other families because there were no available rooms.

A spokeswoman says construction will start when fundraising goals have been met.
