Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Motorists navigating a massive work zone near Rochester will notice a new traffic shift starting on Tuesday, October 7.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is calling the shift “the latest milestone in year No. 2 of a three-year project.”

The change in traffic will allow crews to begin work on a next phase of the Hwy.52/Interstate 90 interchange transformation.

Southbound Hwy. 52 Traffic Shift Begins Tuesday at I-90/Hwy/ 52 Interchange Southeast of Rochester

Starting Tuesday, vehicles heading south on Hwy. 52 will shift to the west and begin using newly paved lanes. There will be a new temporary access to eastbound I-90 from southbound Hwy. 52, a MnDOT news release says.

Construction crews will begin work on the ramps on the south side of I-90 at the interchange, according to MnDOT. 

Hwy. 52 remains closed in both directions in Marion. The detour routing Hwy. 52 traffic to Eyota via I-90 and Olmsted County Rd. 7 remains in place.

 Motorists can continue to access northbound Hwy. 52 from westbound I-90. I-90 also remains open in both directions, MnDOT says.

2025 is the second year of a three year project to transform the I-90/Hwy. 52 interchange. 

Once completed, the interchange will feature a flyover ramp to connect southbound Hwy. 52 and eastbound I-90, new on and off ramps and new I-90 overpasses. 

The $27.5 million project remains on track to finish by next year, according to the project’s website.
