Injuries From Lightning and Wind Damage From Saturday Storms
Undated (KROC-AM News) - The storms that moved through parts of the region on Saturday reportedly tore the roof off a home in the Cannon Falls area and sent several people to a hospital to be evaluated after a lightning strike in Lakeville.
The Lakeville Police Department says the bolt of lightning struck a shelter at a city park where about 40 people had gathered for a party. The report says no one was critically injured.
The National Weather Service website says damaging winds hit sections of Goodhue County around 5:30 PM. The report indicates several other homes in the Cannon Falls area had roof damage and multiple trees and power lines were blown down. The storm cell then moved east and causing tree damage and power outages in the Red Wing area, where gusts as high as 60 miles per hour were reported.
The same line of storms produced wind gusts topping 70 miles per hour earlier in the afternoon in southwestern Minnesota. The National Weather Service is reporting numerous large trees were downed and a video posted on Twitter shows heavy damage to the roof of the Granite Falls High School during the storm.
The storms largely broke up before hitting Rochester, where less than a tenth of an inch of rain was reported in downtown Rochester and at the City's Airport. The highest rainfall total in the region was in the Mazeppa area where just under three-quarters of an inch of rain was reported.
