Dalton, MN (KROC-AM News) - The National Weather Service has upgraded its rating of the killer tornado that struck in an area of northwestern Minnesota Wednesday evening.

It is now estimated the tornado, which started out as a weak EF-0 or EF-1 twister when it touched down in northern Grant County, intensified to an EF-4 tornado with 170 mile-per-hour winds by the time it devastated a rural property near the town of Dalton in Otter Tail County. The storm leveled a machine shop and killed 30-year-old Seth Nelson of rural Battle Lake while he was working inside the building.

Two other people also suffered minor injuries during their encounters with the tornado. The National Weather Service says it was on the ground for approximately nine miles in an area south of Fergus Falls.
