Rochester Man With Violent Past Accused of Slashing Woman With Knife

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester man is facing multiple charges connected to a pair of alleged assaults, one of which involved a knife.

That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court on Tuesday. Both of the alleged attacks happened earlier this month. 

Rochester police responded to a domestic assault involving a knife reported at an apartment complex in northeast Rochester on Monday. The victim had a gash on the top of her right hand, the complaint says.

Officers found a knife in the sink in the home’s bathroom and also saw blood on the bathroom’s mirror, sink toilet and door, the charges say.

The victim also had a bandage on her left hand and officers learned that she had suffered that injury, which required a trip to the emergency room and stitches around Dec. 6, according to the court document. 

30-year-old Delano Leroy Moton was identified as the alleged assailant. The charges say he left the apartment before officers arrived at the scene of the reported Dec. 16 assault. 

Moton contacted law enforcement on the morning of Dec. 17 saying he wanted to speak with an officer. Police arrested Moton after making contact with him.

In a statement to investigators Moton claimed the woman was holding a knife when she put him in a chokehold and cut his head. The complaint says Moton did not have any visible head injuries. 

Moton is charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault and two counts of felony domestic assault. He’s being held on $200,000 bail without conditions. 

Court records indicate Moton was convicted last year in two domestic violence-related cases. He made his first court appearance on Tuesday and is due back in court later this month.
