Officials determined there were not any safety concerns. As a precautionary measure, the sheriff’s office deployed explosive detection K-9’s to conduct a sweep of the building, the news release says.

The juvenile and a guardian were with sheriff’s office personnel throughout the incident and were fully cooperative with law enforcement, authorities say.

Byron School District Superintendent Dr. Mike Neubeck sent the following email to the district community Tuesday evening:

Dear Families,
Late this afternoon, an unidentified substance was discovered on the high school campus after school dismissal. Out of an abundance of caution, we immediately contacted the Olmsted Sheriff's Department, who thoroughly investigated the situation.

Authorities determined there was no immediate threat. However, as an extra precaution, they conducted a thorough sweep of the school to ensure the safety of our community.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
