Lake City, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Lake City woman is accused of stabbing a man in the chest during a drunken domestic incident early Monday.

Wabasha County court records indicate 49-year-old Katie Lee Miles was arraigned today on charges of first- and second-degree assault, as well as a misdemeanor count of domestic assault. Her conditional bail was set at $10,000. The

Alcohol Allegedly Played Role in Domestic Dispute

According to the charges, Lake City police responded to a medical emergency at a residence around 12:15 a.m. on June 22. The call concerned a man who had cut his chest while doing dishes, and the responding officer was told the woman who called dispatch sounded heavily intoxicated.

The criminal complaint says the responding officer was met by a juvenile male yelling, "Help, please help." The officer then found the victim on the kitchen floor with a bloody rag pressed to his upper chest. The court document indicates Miles was also in the kitchen, pacing and telling the officer to help.

Victim Claimed He Accidentally Stabbed Himself

The charges state that the officer found the man was suffering from a deep stab wound and was told by the victim that he had accidentally cut his chest while doing the dishes by slipping on the kitchen rug in front of the sink and landing on the knife. Miles told the officer she found the knife lying next to the victim and later placed it in the sink.

Juvenile Witness Describes Events Inside Home

The juvenile witness later told investigators that Miles and the victim had been arguing for several hours, and he was in his bedroom when he heard the victim yell, "Uhhh." The juvenile stated he then went into the kitchen and found the victim standing at the sink, with Miles beside him trying to help and the knife lying on the floor between the two of them. The witness then saw the victim fall to the floor and responded by running to a neighbor's home to call for help.

According to the criminal complaint, the witness indicated Miles and the victim fought about once a month and believed it was because of alcohol. The witness also told police that Miles had assaulted the victim in the past.
