Law Enforcement Gives First of Its Kind Honor to SE Minnesota Teacher

Byron, MN (KROC-AM News)- A southeast Minnesota teacher has received the first of its kind recognition from an area law enforcement agency.

She teaches at Byron High School and one of her students is the daughter of a Dodge County Sheriff’s Deputy. The student and her dad lobbied Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose to recognize the young girl’s teacher. 

The sheriff obliged and surprised the teacher on Monday. Tara Dunken teaches a Criminal Justice class at Byron High School, a course that Rose said she pushed the school district to add to the school’s class offerings. 

Rose presented Dunken with a certificate of appreciation and an honorary Deputy Badge from the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, something he says the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has never done before.

Rose also complimented the kids in the class and said he saw the positive impact Olmsted County Sheriff’s Deputy and Byron School Resource Officer Nate Jacobson is having on the students. 

Jacobson was also on hand to present Dunken with the recognition.
