Minnesota 4th of July Cookout Prices Remain Near Record Highs
It's going to cost you almost as much as it did last year to feed your friends and family at the annual Fourth of July cookout this year.
And last year was the most expensive year on record for the American Farm Bureau Federation's annual marketbasket survey.
Each year since 2013, the Farm Bureau Federation has conducted a survey of how much it costs for the annual Independence Day cookout in each state and Puerto Rico
That includes the prices of:
- cheeseburgers
- chicken breasts
- pork chops
- homemade potato salad
- strawberries
- ice cream

Overall, the cookout this year in Minnesota will cost $70.92 for 10 guests. That's down just 30-cents from last year's record-high cost of $71.22.
That compares to just $67.73 for those same products in 2023.
It'll cost a little less this year for pork chops, potato chips and hamburger buns. Meanwhile, other products cost more.
Hamburger increased over 50-cents from last year -- the highest price for beef ever recorded in the survey.
Despite the Avian Flu, chicken prices remained stable -- dropping just 4-cents this year.
Here's how the prices for the 2025 Independence Day cookout break down:
- Ground beef (2 lbs.) -- $13.33, up 4.4%
- Chicken breasts (2 lbs.) -- $7.79, down .5%
- Pork chops (3 lbs.) -- $14.13, down 8.8%
- Cheese (1 lb.) -- $3.54, down .9%
- Hamburger buns (1 package) -- $2.35, down 2.6%
- Homemade potato salad (2.5 lbs.) -- $3.54, up 6.6%
- Pork and beans (32 oz.) -- $2.69, up 8.2%
- Potato chips (16-oz bag) -- $4.80, down 2.1%
- Chocolate chip cookies (13-oz. package) -- $4.00, up 0.3%
- Ice cream (half gallon) -- $5.69, up 0.7%
- Strawberries (2 pints) -- $4.69, up 1.7%
- Lemonade (2.5 quarts) -- $4.37, up 4.2%
Overall, after sharp food inflation over the past few years, food prices are leveling out. Expect protein prices to remain volatile because of disease pressures and labor costs.Still other food prices are stabilizing because of improving supply chains and easing input prices.
